I don't know if this is the obituary for John's wife Greta or not. This Greta was born in 1917 in Holland. Her second husband was named John Davie however that is all the information given about him. She died in Crowsnest Pass Continuing Care Centre in 2011 but it says she was formerly of Coleman, Alberta.  Here's a link:

Did your John have a middle name? The Canadian Phone and Address Directories (1995-2002) database at Ancestry has an entry for John G. Davie at a Coleman address up to 2000. There is also an entry for G. Davie for 2001-2002 at the same address in Coleman.

If that is the right John Davie it would appear that he didn't marry Greta until at least the mid-1970s as there is a John Davie who worked at a lumbermill in Coleman listed in the Canada Voters List for 1974 but he is alone.

Hi Jacquie thanks for the reply, their something going through mmy  mind that she was from Holland (dont know about any ex-husbands or children).

We only have 2 photos of my grandad and 1 of Greta, 1 of those with my grandad show's him picking apples from a tree (apple pie?) and the other photo show Greta and although much older than in the photo in the link there is a clear resemblance between the 2 leading me to believe they are the same person.

I don't believe John had any middle names but i will check.

Many thanks.

Not an ex-husband - she was a widow when she married John Davie according to the obit.

Since the obit is rather recent you could try Canada 411 to get and address an phone number for one of her daughters. One of them still lives in Coleman and there is only one listing for the daughter's married surname. They may not know much about him but they would certainly know whether the pictures you have are of this Greta and her late husband, John. Here's the link: http://www.canada411.ca/
