They could be brothers and sisters except for the name Jane - couldn't have 2 Jane Blacks.

There are quite a few possibilities. One tip is to search the local newspaper indexes around the date of death to see if there is a funeral intimation. If none, then a similar exercise on a spouse or infant child might prove worthwhile. If you get a graveyard named and no stone found, then at least that search is over.

DGFHS has search facilities which cover most graveyards too.

Hi,

Finding my 3XG Grandmother on the Holywood 1861 census, living with her daughter and family was a great help.
Then I was able to search on SP for her death entry. I found her. she died 12 July 1865 at Wellington Village, parish of Holywood. (Thought she maybe buried there)

Yesterday, I spent sometime at the Archive Centre. There are no funeral intimations for MEIN's. However, I did find Jane's daughter, Janet RAE,who she was living with, funeral intimation. Janet and her family are buried in Troqueer cemetery. No mention of Jane MEIN.

John MEIN d. 1848 Jericho. He left a will but no funeral intimation.  Jane MEIN was at Jericho in 1851  pauper - 1861 Holywood. So, neither had a funeral intimation

Shall pop in to the DGFHS the next time I'm in the area.

Jerico is in Tinwald parish, in fact the cemetery is only a few hundred yards away. He died first (1848) and that is where I would be looking first. 
Another source worth looking at would be the Poors Records in the Ewart library. If Janet was classed as a Pauper, she should have an entry and that might say where she was buried. If the Poors board buried her, there won't be a headstone unless there was one in place for her husband.

Yes, Tinwald  was the first place I  searched no joy. Then I tried Kirkmahoe. I think it is to early to check the layers lists.

Shall look at the Poor Records when the Ewart opens again. As Jane MEIN died at her daughters in Holywood, would she have seen to the burial, where ever that was. In John's will, he did have money and, thought perhaps he would have had a headstone.

Perhaps, like most of my ancestors, I am not going to find them.

Hi imchad,

Was at the DG First , Cargen Towers, yesterday to ask about Layers. Sadly, their records don't go as far back.

I did however, find her daughter's headstone, in Troqueer cemetery. Also, I may have found John MEIN's parents but, will have to do some research first.
