That was a shame about the lack of details on the marriage certificate. To avoid falling into this situation in future, have a look at the BDM website which sets out the "data collected" for the various years for births, deaths & marriage registrations.............

Good advice. I have had marriages from this time period before with the info on it, so was quite surprised.

Checking on that advice, find the marriage was 2 years too early for that info, but the birth cert should be OK.

Hello...

The following link mentions your John.

It says he's in Vol.97 of the Whangarei C of E burial register.

No idea if it will have any additional details to the death certificate but no harm in emailing and asking.

-----

The AtoJs have several mentions of your John's unsuccessful land claim. No mention of a regimental number but the word "Petition" is mentioned often. Maybe the item held at Archives is your John's original petition. Would be handy as he's sure to mention his regimental number.

Or not :-)

I am trying to find out who John Frederick BOYD's parents were and when exactly he came to New Zealand. He was married in 1850 to Mary Ann POTE. He lived in Wellington, but in later life moved to Whangarei, where he died on 13 January 1900. Newspaper obit says he was 88; death cert states 85, occupation tailor. It offers no clues as to his parents, and place of birth is listed as England. A tree on Ancestry says London, but likewise no parental clues. I find a John Boyd born in London 1811, but baptised 1814, and the father's occupation is listed as a weaver, but that is a tenuous connection to say the least. There are around 14 other John Boyds I can see listed as being baptised between 1810 and 1820. It may be a long shot, but finding him on a shipping list may give a clue as to where in England he actually came from. Any help or suggestions most welcome!

Hi I am working on the family at the moment the down-line of his daughter Amelia who m. Robert Sutherland, and then Christoffer Thorbjorensen.
Be great to chat with you  :)
Regards  David

Hi David,
You are most welcome to send me a private message about this topic! John Boyd is an ancestor of my cousin - I have been looking at her family tree.

Hi George,

As David has only made one post he won't be able to send Personal Messages (PM) until he makes two more. In the meantime I suggest you send him a PM with your email address. He may be able to receive it.

Congratulations on making a connection. ;D

Thanks Spades! And I have made a connection with Busbridge descendants over on Ancestry - was contacted out of the blue, so sent a reply and am now waiting to hear back from them.
