hi from plum I am probably related to you , but I will have to find time to go thro the marsden family tree, from memory my grt grt grt granddad was William marsden  and he married -ann crabtree. William brn 1810@deanhead and ann brn 1809 I think in either scammonden or barkisland and her parents farmers and a publican just up the road from barkisland church and its possible that William was at the same place in 1834 and in 1845  he is in the directory for barkisland as a beer seller/farmer of slack, my memory is a bit slack it used to be very good but age is taking over77now,  if you are in the local area that you are talking about  give me a ring and we can get together, there is also a bit further back  a hirst as well we have graves in dean head and barkisland churches plum     07976515892

Hi plum,

It seems like the Crabtree family of James Crabtree and your Ann Crabtree are probably related somewhere along the line.

Can you connect your Ann Crabtree born 1809 to James Crabtree born in 1811 in Scammonden?

(PS I'm afraid I don't live in the area - I live in Australia  :))

hi from plum I havnt looked thro ancestry for the crabtree family, all I know was that they lived at Slack, now there is a Slack in Outlane at the other side of the valley( Huddersfield side) and the one at Barkisland and it looks to me as tho it was his father in law Mr Crabtree that got William into the beer making and selling to help with the faming  and that he was living at Barkisland @Slack.

I have a couple of cousins that live in Australia 1 in Perth and the other in Adelaide and that's about as much as I have on the Crabtree side, I will be going to the Huddersfield family history rooms to do a bit of research in a couple of  weeks time will have a look as I havnt got ancestry now it got too expensive Keith.

hello   I have a former Ann Crabtree she married my great---granddad havnt bothered to see which one, not sure of where she lived before, but I surmise that she lived in either at  Outlane or Barkisland and I believe that her dad was also a beer sellar in Barkisland, both are in Dean Head and her name was then Ann Marsden and she died Nov 25th 1872 and William died Feb 13th 1882,   Ann was 64 yrs and William was 73yrs. they are both at the bottom opposite the church door. there are a few graves with the same name of Marsden in that bottom section  one has some broken iron railings at low level with a rounded top . I think that they now have a disc of all graves in the church yard,   the grave with the iron railings has a grave of a William and he was drowned in  mystery in the local catchment reservoir this is under the new res that is the M62 Wall, I have some paper work of the event, if you live locally I can meet with you and if you want a copy you can have one ,  so I could be related we have just lost my brother in December suddenly, went for a news paper went home put his glasses on walking to his chair, bang on the floor dead only 61 and walked everywhere, keep in touch if you want to no problem   keith

Welcome to rootschat Jasmine. It's been a long time since I first posted this in my search for descendants of James Crabtree.

So we have now discovered the Crabtree connection to Queensland. Herbert and Ellen! I am a bit confused about which of these children was born in Yorkshire and which were born in Qld.

Are you saying that Herbert and Ellen emigrated to Qld with two children - Harold and Sam. After they arrived in Qld they went on to have more children?

If so, your dates don't seem to tally, for example, you say Sam is born in 1886 in Yorkshire, and Harold is born in 1895 also in Yorkshire, but then Norman is born in 1890 in Qld?  :-\
[Reading this again, I presume you have made a typo with Harold's year of birth and it should be 1885 rather than 1895?  :)]

Whereabouts in the world do you live Jasmine?
Which of the Hirst children do you descend from?

yes there are mistakes. I believe. I thought perhaps they went back a couple of times to England but now I have found my Uncle Robert Hirst's research and I need to make some changes. I am Douglas Hirst's daughter. Son of Norman Dyson Hirst, son of Herbert Hirst, son of Reuben Hirst. I'll sort out the mistakes and get back to you.

That would be good thanks Jasmine. You obviously have some knowledge of your family history - do you know if any other descendants of James Crabtree (b 1811 Scammonden) went to Australia?
