Schools in Glasgow
« on: Saturday 24 August 13 23:01 BST (UK) »
HI folks,

My brother was taken to Glasgow in 1961, they stayed in Annbank Street, where I joined them a couple of years later. He would have been abt. 9. So I wondered if anyone knew what primary school he may have attended ? Also where might I enquire about school records. Trying to see if I can locate a school picture as I have no pics.
Thanks in anticipation.

Being Glasgow the first decision as to what primary school you attended related to your religion. There was no way I was ever going to be allowed near my nearest one! So that might narrow things down a little.  There's some information on records here:

As I recall the Friendsreunited website is very popular with old school friends and there are many class photos on there if you can just narrow down the possible schools.

Thank you IMBER,
I was reluctant to put information re religion as I know it is an important issue, more so in some areas. I had a similar dilemma when trying to trace my gt. grandfather from Ireland. Having grown up in Aberdeen we were not really aware of any "divide" HOwever I take you very valid point with gratitude.

Thanks, will look at your link.

Hi, the nearest primary school to Annbank Street was Thomson Street Primary on the corner of Thomson Street and Reidvale Street.  This building has now been converted into flats.

Hope this helps

Suggest a look at Glesca pals web site http://www.glesga.ukpals.com/schools.htm

There's only 1 photo for Thomson St of about that time but users of this site may be able to point you in right direction.
