My parents were living in S Alloa when I was born in 1953, but we moved to Fallin shortly after that so I don't really have any personal memories of living there. What I do know is that they lived in a prefab, lots of which were built throughout the country after the war to alleviate the housing shortage. I know there were a number of prefabs in S Alloa at the time and I think most of the families living there moved to Fallin when more permanent houses were built. Not all the families would have been mining families - my dad worked on the railways in Stirling.
S Alloa was an occasional stopping off point on bike runs from Fallin when I was a kid. I don't remember more than 4 or 5 houses being there at that time (early 60's) and I think all that remained of the prefabs were concrete foundations. There was a road went down by the Forth which ended in a slipway of sorts, next to what I think was a hauliers yard. On one occasion we were chased by a man in a rowing boat who came across from one of the islands in the Forth (probably farmer who I think still had cows on the island at that time - though that could be my memory playing tricks). He pointed a 'gun' at us (turned out to be one of his oars!) and threatened to shoot us as we were on 'his road'!
Be interesting to see if anyone has more accurate memories or details about the village.
