Help to find Sarah Reid Ayrshire

Hi everyone,

I wondered if anyone would be able to help me find my missing Sarah Reid?

Sarah was born in September 1898 in Dreghorn, Ayrshire. She then had a daughter, also Sarah in 1917 in the same place. After 1917 I get stuck and am unable to find her in the records. I am keen to find her.

Does anyone have suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

Did Sarah snr. marry? Or for that matter Sarah jnr?

Hi,

Sarah Sn - not that I am aware of. When I was younger I was told she died not long after her daughter was born.

Sarah Jn - yes she did marry but her certificate doesn't shed any light on her mother.

I take it you can't find a death in Ayrshire for Sarah. I've had a quick look on Scotlands People and I can't see a likely candidate in Ayrshire.
I take it Sarah snr is either not recorded on her daughter's marriage cert, or is recorded as deceased?

Please bear in mind that Sarah may not have died as early as you were told. She could have moved away or she could have married.
Do you know who raised young Sarah if she was motherless from a young age? Was it her grandparents?

Hiya,

Her marriage certificate says that Sarah Sn was deceased - her name is Sarah Keating on the certificate and that's the name of her step dad.  Sarah Jn was brought up by her grandmother.. Another Sarah I'm afraid!

As far as I understand it Sarah Jn was raised by Sarah Barnes (her maiden name). This Sarah was married 1st to Thomas Reid and then Andrew Keating. Andrew would been the person who was around when Sarah Jn was growing up. Sarah Barnes died in Stirling but I couldn't find Sarah Reid Sn (or under Keating) in the Stirling area either.

Oh there's nothing like a good mystery!

I know from my own family history , that stories could be related to junior family members which were not entirely true . Families tended to hush things up/clam up and not discuss them/ tell little white lies.

That's why I suggested that Sarah perhaps didn't die as young as you were told. She may not have been able to look after her child.
So Sarah jnr took her step grandfathers name when she married.

There is a death for a Sarah Barnes other name Reid in 1931 Stirling with a year of birth 1866. Could that be the first Sarah who raised her grandaughter??
