Hi Sarah,

What do you think about the searches?
It may be that the children were taken back to Ireland because James couldn't manage the care rather than a death for him.
There was no formal adoption at that time.
You could order a copy of Marian's death certificate here: https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ which would hopefully explain her death.

Thank you Radcliff, but I'm thinking that since  this Marion was 40 in 1855, she could not realistically have a son Willie in 1883.
Heywood, I am bowled over by the willingness of your members to spend their time researching this family.
At this time I don't think Marion's death certificate would provide any helpful info, since we are not totally sure if she is the mother. I think I need to find Willie's birth certificate, but I'm not sure how.............  Radcliff posted:
 William H Kearns
birth registered Hulme Manchester 1883
reference,HUL/240/40...........but where do I order a copy from ?
Is Hulme a suburb of Manchester ?
I am totally overwhelmed by the amount of documentation that exists and all the different websites and passwords required........... :-[

Just spotted this one
William Charles Kearns christened 4th August 1889 Chapelry of St. Clement, Ordsall-in-Salford, Lancashire, England parents James Kearns and Alice Amelia.

added: I think that this one can be ruled out as he is with his parents and grandmother Eliza Kearns (born Cheshire) in 1891

Hi Sarah,

The marriage which Radcliff posted is the mother of Marian/Mary Ann Morrison.

You can order  birth certificates from the same reference I gave you re the death certificate.
This is the information for Manchester Registrars http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/324/family_history_searches/1144/buy_a_copy_certificate
