Andrew Wallace b. 1824 Lanarkshire

A lot of boys for Andrew and Susan, with the exception of daughter Margaret born not too long after their marriage. With Susan's mother also being Susan and her family's Scottish connections, maybe the name is relevant and a possibility for Andrew's mother? Early censuses back in Scotland are not helping so far...

Hi again,
There is a family in Barony, Lanarkshire
Father Andrew Wallace - Mother Margaret who on  the 1841 Census have 7 children . The oldest is Andrew age 15.
The family are still all together on the 1851 minus Andrew. Of course this Andrew could have died or married and set up home elsewhere.
Other family names David, Elizabeth, Peter, Margaret,Agnes and John.

Andrew Wallace aged  49   Cotton Yarn Dresser   born Renfrewshire Mearns
Margaret Wallace age 48   Cotton Yarn Dresser's wife born Renfrewshire Pollockshaws
 Can't see a marriage yet for these two.

David   aged 24 Grocer    born Renfrewshire, Pollockshaws
Eliz       aged19 Muslin darner  born Lanarkshire Glasgow
Peter    aged 17 Tobacconist shopman         "
Margaret age 15  Scholar                            "
Agnes   age 13  Scholar                              "

The problem always with this type of search and info we have so far, we don't really have any single concrete fact/event to work from so far. This always makes it very speculative doesn't it

On 1841 Census the family are at North Street-

Andrew    40   Cotton Power Loom Weaver   born outside census county
Margaret   35                                                      "
Andrew     15   Iron Smith Apprentice                    "
David        14   Grocers Shop Apprentice                "
Elizabeth  11  Peter 8  Margaret  6  Agnes 4 John 10 months   all born Lanarkshire.

Andrew jnr may well have been born in Renfrewshire like his brother. Not Lanarkshire but not a million miles away either??

I agree Monica. It could be them and then again....probably not

Wonder about the names of Andrew's children -
Crawford ? Probably a family surname?
Rhind ?  Another family surname?
Tench?
Wonder what the I after Margaret and the F after Henry stood for?

Then again maybe they were very progressive folk and just called the children names they liked

Thank you both for your insights.

Wish I did have more info, but spent a lot of time at the local Archives, even with help of one of the Archivist we could only come up with these bare bones.  The Church the family was members was torn down and the records have been lost, death records not completely filled in etc, only found the Banns by luck it had been filed in the wrong county.  The Huttons on the other hand found many documents: church and property records, a will and a Coroner Inquest into one of the son's death.
