john bloor the lamb inn and clockmaker
« on: Thursday 15 August 13 17:50 BST (UK) »
hi my grandfather from way back was an innkeeper & clockmaker (john bloor 1780-?). he had his inn (the lamb) and clock business running from same location 31 high st newcastle under lyme. have found records (from ancestry) that he ran the lamb from at least 1818 until 1842.  on 1842 records listed the lamb inn as damaged and it was not on 1843 records. john then became a beer retailer in shelton. does anybody know what happened to the lamb and what year john died? regards nick

Checking for newspaper mentions... there's one from the Staffordshire Advertiser of 9 March 1839 announcing the death of his wife Elizabeth on the 5th aged 65. Still at the Lamb Inn then.

There is a reference to a Lamb Inn on this link, which appears to have been rebuilt in 1925.  Not sure if this is the one you are looking for as you have said there is no mention of it in 1843.

Could this be your John?

John Bloor, estimated birth year about 1782.
