Maurice O'Neill Stonecutter.
« on: Tuesday 13 August 13 11:18 BST (UK) »
My GG grandfather Maurice O'Neill came to Dublin from Carlow around the time of the famine as his later children are recorded on Irish Genealogy from 1845 to 1852 wife Eliza Burke. I reckon he was born circa 1809 died at 11 Sandwith st in 1881 age 80.
When i found his grave in Glasnevin i was surprised to find a son buried there by the name Samuel O'Neill age 24 he died in 1859. He also had another son Matthew who was a Fenian leader, through researching Matthew i found references to his father Maurice and bro Samuel.
reference 1 Thomas Clarke Luby papers m s 331 NAI. Matthews father was a well to do bussinessman in Dublin.
ref 2 John Devoy [Irish Rebel ] writing in the Gaelic American Newspaper in 1904 said Matthews brother Samuel was killed in 1859 while working on the church in Dominick st by a scaffolding plank falling on his head.
I would like to know are there any references to Maurice in any directories having a business premises stoneyard possibly in 11 Sandwith st as i know from his wife's death in 1865 he was also there then so approx 20 years at that address.
any references in papers to Samuels death in 1859.
any info greatly appreciated thanks Dathai.

Have you searched through all the online Dublin directories? See DUBLIN RESOURCES.

Dathai, I had a very quick look online in the Irish Newspaper Archives for Samuel's accident in 1859 and there is a note in the Freeman's Journal on Friday, December 09, 1859, p. 4:  'Fatal Accident – A man named Samuel O’Neill, aged about 25 years, while engaged at his work in the new church of St Saviour Dominick street, yesterday morning a piece of timber, fell and inflicted great injuries upon him. He was conveyed to Jervis Hospital, where he died in the course of the day.'
