John Wheatley from Buxted and Philadelphia Ashby from Mayfield
« on: Monday 12 August 13 15:44 BST (UK) »
I am a descendant of John Wheatley (1793 Buxted, Sussex – 1872 Gunning, NSW,Aust) and Philadelphia Ashby (1802 Mayfield, Sussex – 1838 Parramatta, NSW). I have quite a lot of information about their life in Australia (which I am very happy to share), but my information about the 2 families before they came to Australia is limited. I’ve got all the names and dates from The Weald website and I also know a little about John’s lay preaching from the following:
http://webjournals.ac.edu.au/journals/adeb/w/wheatley-john-1792-1872/
I’d love to hear from anyone who is researching these families so I can put some flesh on the bare bones of The Weald’s genealogical info.

Hi Jules,
Not the same John, but they were cousins. Which means so are we  :).  They shared great grand parents. Have you been to The Weald website:
http://www.theweald.org/sitesearchs.asp
"Your" John (b 1797) was the 1st son of John (b 1756), who was the 2nd son of John (b 1725) who was the first son of Edward (b 1692).
"My" John (b 1793) was the 1st son of John (b 1764), who was the 1st son of William (b1730) who was the 2nd son of Edward (b 1692). Edward was a weaver.
