I'm really surprised that they haven't got any formation regarding the workhouse have you tried Google there is some information there. You could also try the Barnsley Family History Society.

Thanks Rosie and Carolanne - i should have been clearer, i was looking for information on a birth of George Turner in 1876, admission details of his mother and hopefully details confirming his father was Joseph Turner. I was told the Guardians minutes books and commitee minutes, would not help with this. I have the birth certificate, but BRICKWALL on his father Joseph, he does not appear on any census with his wife or supposed children! The only concrete evidence i have of Joseph's existence is the marriage in 1867, although Joseph is not recorded with the family on any census his wife does not list herself as a widow until the 1891 census. I think this is one brickwall i am never going to break down. Thanks anyway for your input.

I drew a similar blank when looking for my grandmother & her siblings in Barnsley archive. They were orphaned in 1907 & I was looking for poor law records, which I was told they didnīt have at Barnsley archive, although they did suggest I tried the Record Office at Wakefield.
I didnīt as I donīt live in England & hadnīt got time, but it might be worth your while contacting Wakefield.
(I subsequently found the children I was looking for had been taken in by the Waifs & Strays Society.)
