English Street Craigkeuk

Hi, I'm trying to help my father remember his past and have learned he grew up in English Street in Craigneuk, Lanarkshire in the 1960's.  I have been searching for pictures of the area and have had no luck.  Could anybody help?

All those buildings in English Street were demolished years ago, Motherwell Heritage Centre may have photographs.

Hi Lodger,  I have been to the Heritage centre with him today, all the pics were of the area either before the houses were built or after they were demolished, Thanks for your suggestion, will keep looking

I don't have pics,but can recall some of the residents that first moved their from Mafeking St, Docherty, Griffen, Rae, Harvey, Ledswith, Maxwell, Mc Ginn,these names might bring back some memories for your dad.

Also the Leven's, Early's, Smith', Thomson, Bulloch's, Gallagher's, Law's, Maxwell's,  Hinshwood (emigrated to Canada late 60's) and I'll find out other names from my sister who has a better memory than me.
English Street didn't just exist of modern buildings, the old prefabs are still there leading on to Kimberley Street.
My family lived in Ritchie Street.

It should be Hinshelwood not Hinshwood.  It depends if you mean English Street OR 'English Buildings' as everyone seems to call the area around the street the same.  There were also the Law's. Yardley's, Docherty's and Kings.

Sorry, I realise the original post for this was 2013 but somehow I have just came across it. I lived in the English buildings, I would have to search my mums photo box for some pics, we stayed on the left side going in at number 33. We moved out in 1961, the people I remember were the McLaughlins, McKendricks, Dunions or Durnions, Kings to name a few. I also had an Aunt Ellie Cummings stayed in the cottages further down she was Irish as was my mum and dad.  There was a sweetie shop and they used to call the old lady Annie, we went in on the way to St Patricks school for a mix up with 3d. There was a shoe repair shop called Hoeys. The memories right enough. Oh the Gallons stayed in the next block down as well.
