Am trying to research my family from the above area. Names include Winters, Shannon, Keating and Quigley.
I believe that the majority of their time they would have come under St Catherines in Meath Street.

Does any one know if their records are anywhere else other than with the parish or at the Dublin Diocesan Archives? ( Depending on year documented).

Have been to the Irish Life centre re records but to no avail.

Also does anyone know that if you were to look through prison registers would there be any more detail available to you other than that recorded by the LDS on their website.

Hi Tracey,

You can search church records at irishgeneology.ie, they have a decent amount for the meath street area. You should check under st catherines and st james. I had family living round there and thought their records would be under st catherines but most weren't.

As regards the prison records, in my experience there isn't much info to be had from the LDS records but if you take down information such as dates and addresses you can see the actual prison records on FindMyPast. If you don't have a subscription you can buy 100 pay as you go credits. Each prison register is 20 credits but I found a lot of information on the records such as addresses, physical description, next of kin, occupation, offences, sentence etc. The records of 1910 in Kilmainham were a little sparce for me but 1913 and 1914 were very detailed.

Just found out today that the records for the 1800s for St Catherine's are held at Holy Cross College, Clonliffe Road, Drumcondra. If you ring the archivist you can arrange to visit and look at the registers. We may have had this discussion on another thread about my Saul relations but are you related to Mary and Michael Winters?

Are you talking about Michael and Mary Winters in the 1911 census? I believe that I am related to Michael. Would you know what his wife Mary's maiden name was?

Hi Tracey,

Sadly I don't know her maiden name. Mary was a witness to Francis Saul and Elizabeth Dowd's wedding in 1911. Also, on Francis's army records his wife's current address is listed as 16 Carman Hall which is Michael and Mary Winters address in 1911. Elizabeth's first two children weren't Francis'. Their father was Thomas Barrett. I know very little about him except that on his daughter's baptism record in 1907 his address is 1 Carman Hall. I was just wondering if maybe you had come across him in your research given the crossover of addresses.

Quick check on FindMyPast, in 1910 Michael Winters marriage. Two names on the page are Mary Ann Behan and Mary Davis. One of these could be your Mary. It's vol 2 p644 dublin south 2nd Quarter.

Thank you.  I have only just worked out that I am related to Michael Winters recently as I have been having a lot of trouble finding my direct line of Winters ancestry. He is the son of James Winters who was the brother of my great grandfather x2 Patrick. I cannot find records for a marriage of Patrick to a Catherine who I believe was a Carey.
I will bear in mind the names that you are interested in.

By the way have you any suggestions about how I investigate the birth details of a Kohen Winters aged 9 in 1911 census with I believe his two brothers William and Thomas living with the Keating family in the Coombe.( William is my great grandfather whose parents were possibly Patrick and Catherine Carey). I have come over to Ireland several times to push this research on but to no avail. At the moment as well as Patrick's marriage cannot find records of Williams and Thomas' birth and have also tried to look for the marriage of John Keating and a Catherine to see what the family link is to their nephews. The family still around today have no idea who this Kohen is. I'm not too sure of the spelling.
