What I cannot understand is why on 1939 registration did he say his DOB was 8/6/1886
If this was his death cert. it wouldn't have been him saying it.

No jim the 1939 registration was done in WW2 which was a National registration of everyone in the Country. This is the one I got before they started charging for them. :D

Information Request – Freedom of Information Act 2000

I can confirm that the NHS Information Centre for Health and Social Care has considered your query dated the 27th January 2010

“I wish to request under the Freedom of Information Act details of the

The 1939 National Registration is a record of the civilian population as at 29 September 1939. The books are arranged in National Registration Number order and based on the actual whereabouts of individuals on the night concerned. Thus, if an individual was not at his/her usual place of residence, e.g., in hospital or at a hotel, he/she will not appear at that address in the books.

The information held by the NHS IC is the original information as recorded in 1939 which is now over 70 years old. As such a number of entries within the Register are incomplete or illegible due to natural deterioration and disrepair.

The NHS IC will do it's utmost to provide the requested information when appropriate but there may be occasions when this is not possible. Therefore, there may be instances where the information provided is the most accurate interpretation of what is recorded.

As the 1939 Register only includes individuals who were recorded at an address on the 29 September 1939, members of the Armed Forces were not normally listed as they had already been called up for military service.

The information provided by each household was accepted at face value, therefore there may be instances of inaccurate information being recorded.

I hope that this response meets your request for information. However, if you are not satisfied, you may request a review from a suitably qualified member of staff not involved in the initial query, via the enquiries@ic.nhs.uk e mail address or by post at the above postal address.

I will assume that your request to the organisation is now closed.

Yours sincerely,

Kathryn Anderson
Higher Information Governance Officer
