Manchester Library Visit - August. Anyone need look-ups??
« on: Monday 05 August 13 12:48 BST (UK) »
Hello All,
I will be at the library on August 9th and have time free for look ups if anyone needs anything. I am no longer offering to do photocopies as the cost has risen to 75p per A4 sheet.  :o
The photocopier and I do not have a good relationship and it can take me half a dozen tries to get a reasonable image. Too costly!!
Please reply by 9pm August 8th.
Regards
Marie

Hello Marie:

Thank you for the kind offer to do look ups.  I am wondering if you can help me.  I have just found an address where my great aunt was living when she was getting an allowance while her husband was in the first world war.

The address is 124 Manchester Street, Oldham. Lancshire.  Is there any chance you can look at the street directories to see who was living at that address.  I know it is not much to go on, but I just found this while searching for his army records this morning.  My great aunts name is Elizabeth Goldthorpe.

thank you very much

Cheers

Hi Marie.
I know this is a long shot, but is there a possibility that you (or anyone) could find a birth record for a William (Willie) Kearns in Manchester in either 1883 or 1884[/b]. He would also have a sister Mary, born 1873 or 1878.  Apparently both parents died  later(some big Flu in England that killed a lot of people ?) and my great grandfather brought both of them to Ireland and raised them. (I don't know what year that was, but I am really anxious to know who their parents were and what is my relationship to them).
I think the mother's name may have been Morrissey, but I'm really not sure.
I suppose the last name could also be misspelled as Kerns...but i don't think so.

If you can point me in the right direction to request these records, I would be most greatful.
Thanks, so much for any help you can give.

Hi

There is a marriage for a James Kearns and Marion E MORRISON in 1878 Chorlton on Medlock Register Office or Registrar attended. Do you know if the family were Catholic?

Hi

You might find this site useful  www.mlfhs.org.uk  - there are some online Catholic records

Also, www.liverpoolhistoryprojects.co.uk

Looking on www.lancashirebmd.org.uk there is a death registered for a Mary Ann Kearns aged 36 in 1888 Manchester.

Sarah,

It might be an idea to start a new post about this family as this one is hidden away in the look up offers.
