Just for completeness, the third son of Hannah and Michael DOHERTY, William DOHERTY, died in Victoria in 1897

so much information to take in - my head is in a spin.  These are definitely related to me and it will take some time to try to put it all together.

I live in Australia and was born and raised in Matong NSW - I have been trying to research the family of Michael Doherty and Hannah Gibbons - and follow the line down from there.

My grandfather Hugh Patrick Doherty B.1902 married Amy Dooley (nee Gillespie) - Amy's side of the family has proved difficult to follow through as well.   Amy Gillespie married Albert Dooley who died young and then she remarried Hugh Patrick - I can't find any information of the Dooley side so I have moved onto the Doherty clan
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hugh Patrick is my grandfather and he died suddenly of heart attack in 1964.  Thank you any info you find would be greatly appreciated.  I get very lost trying to find and put together our history.  I think I need to go back to Michael and Hannah to follow through.  I am not sure how I check back in Ireland records and also assume the children came out here

Perhaps you should post a question on the Ireland board about Hannah Gibbons and Michael DOHERTY and their children - Patrick, William and Hugh came to Australia - but there may have been other children (hopefully a Mary for MegMS    ).  The children were apparently born in Churchill, near Kilkenny.

Thank you again Ros - I am new to this and very new to this site - I will try to do what you suggest.
I seem to waste so much time and probably looking in the wrong place at time.  What I have learnt is to not take the information in other family trees as true - this always seems to lead me in a wrong direction.  Thank you again

Yes there is a lot of rubbish in some trees - but they can be useful to give a hint which you can then try to establish if it is true or not.

Ros you are awesome.  I didn't have any of this.  I have not been able to find any info on him.  This gives me a start.  I have checked find a grave but could not come up with anything.  I need you here to show me how you can do this so quickly.  I have not used TROVE and obviously should learn how to use it. My grandmother is Amy Dooley/Doherty (Gillespie) - I have spent so much time following her family.  Her grandmother (Harriett Cross Munro)was not easy to follow and I am still going but making headway - I found this sight while looking for information on her.  I will get better I guess.  I did post on the Kilkenny site
