My grandfather Hugh Patrick Doherty B.1902 married Amy Dooley (nee Gillespie) - Amy's side of the family has proved difficult to follow through as well.   Amy Gillespie married Albert Dooley who died young and then she remarried Hugh Patrick - I can't find any information of the Dooley side so I have moved onto the Doherty clan
Any help would be very much appreciated.

At least 2 of Amy's (Nee GILLESPIE) brothers enlisted for WW1.
Both listed her as their Next of Kin.

One, John GILLESPIE was born in Victoria, as were others to his parents, and his birthdate was about 1877. I do not see him under the name John, but there is a James.

He was killed in action.

Grace DOHERTY died in 1937 in Victoria.

She was a wealthy spinster and left 1000 pounds to her cousin in Letterkenny Annie O'Callaghan  and property to her 3 nieces  Mary Claire Graham, Annie Graham, Grace Graham, and the residue of the estate in trust for a cousin, a sister, and the children of another sister.

BUT she had property in NSW so there is a probate packet at NSW state archives

Thank you Ros - I live on the Gold Coast now and obviously trying to get into my family history.  I love it but i do take a long time to find things and then am not sure - I am getting there.

Sue - thank you for the work you have done - and yes there was a considerable age difference - my Granfather Hugh Patrick was only about 20 when he married Amy Dooley Gillespie - she had two young children.  I beleive his family were not impressed with his choice.  They had another 3 children.  The trouble I have had is following her family back - mother Annie Munro Cross and her family.  I have been working on it for some time.  Annie Cross Munro used both names - I have her parents as Harriett Cross and Henry Arthur Munro - I believe Harriett had two children out of marriage and then married Henry Arthur Munro - this is where is got complicated - children used different names both Cross and Munro - and were raised by family as Harriett died aged 40 from Child birth.  I am still trying to piece this together.  Anything you have will always be helpful - if only to back up what i have found.  I very much appreciate your  work

sue - I have continued to read your posts.  Yes Amy had two brothers who served in WW1 - one died at the battle of Bullie Court in 1917 - John Gillespie  and the other returned - Robert Gillespie - I have read the records for John.  We actually have letters that they wrote from the trenches - very sad
I have the marriage cert for Annie and Alexander and  I have the death cert of Annie and also for Alexander - the names of parents don't add up.  Different names - I believe Annie was raised by family of her father Henry munro and this could be why she has different names on the cert - she used there names as she was only very young when her mother dies. 
I have had a lot of trouble following Harriett Cross (Annie's mother)
