help with the unifoms please most likely to be ww2 period or ww1 the older man was born about 1890

The gentleman on the left is almost definitely a sailor in the Royal Navy - his ship is emblazoned on his cap. I can't make out whether that's a black ribbon on his cap-band or something on the print. Could he be in mourning(?)

I'm not sure about the other gent with the pale-coloured lapels - he looks like a hospital or medical orderly or volunteer - or he could be an inmate/patient in a military hospital.

If you retake the photo with flash turned OFF you'll get much better results - do it by daylight or indirect electric light - taking care to avoid glare, reflections and shadows :)

The guy on the right is wearing "Hospital Blues" if you post his name...it's possible to trace him if he was wounded and got a silver war badge.

Definitely WW1. Royal Navy for chap on left. Recovering wounded soldier on right wearing "Hospital Blues" with own cap.

hi many thanks for the posts its all a great help

chap on right was called John Scholes born about 1890 i can get the exact date if its needed - not sure about the other guy as i did think it was my mothers cousin who could still be alive but im not sure - no name and as i cant date it - but if its WW1 this would not be my mothers cousin as he wouldnt fit with age -
unfortunatley i dont know much about my grandfather John Scholes past i didnt know he served in the war until i found this pic as no-one told me -
any more help appreciated

john Scholes born Bury 1893 - no middle name

lived in Bolton - occupation was driver

not sure of his age on the pic and ive still no idea who the lad is on the left  is so far as my mother is no longer alive to ask
also there is no date on the pciture either
