Hi all
After further research I have now found out that the lad to the right is my great uncle Herbert who served on naval vessels in ww1 and the left is his brother John (my grandad which i already know). I'm not too sure if i can enlarge the writing on the lads cap and i did think it read ambulance service, but after reading his service record on ancestry it may well be the name of a ship as he served on several and it may be my eyes trying to guess - and it may well say HMS and then a name but ill have to try to enlarge the original.
The ships were Tiger, vivid 1, and several others , his service number was ss8174 and he was a few years younger than grandad.
Herbert did not perish in the war - he lived until he was 75 , but I dont have any other details , as mum and her brother are now passed ,I would like to find out some more details and perhaps pass on the picture to his family if they don't have it as i don't know if he ever got married .
He did not die in the war
