Many thanks Pels for all your efforts I was just hoping with all the references to Yorkshire somebody might have found newspaper stories of his younger years to give me a clue of where he came from.

Just for curiosity - do you believe all of what was written ?

This sounds awful, but at the moment I'm not convinced it was entirely factual.

When you say you have proof of their marriage - have you seen the certificate and if so, what was the name of Thomas's father ? Thomas Henry Ashworth (as we know him) doesn't exist until the time of his marriage, which was nearly fifty years after his birth ?

I must admit that I came to the same conclusion that all might not be as written but I would have thought  what was written about his sporting achievements were true that there must have been something written about him in the local papers also if his father was a doctor there must have been something written about him my friends relation has the marriage certificate I must see if I can have a look at it. Many thanks again for your interest and yes those 50 years are a mystery.

Couldn't resist having yet another look and yes you're right, it still doesn't help.

What a shame.  :( :(

All the same, I really appreciate you telling me, thankyou.

Ha !!   Just a minute !  :D

I am trying to trace the birth place and anything about the parents of Thomas Henry Ashworth b 1863 son of Dr and Mrs T Ashworth of Harrogate

Which is absolutely spot on, according to the death registration :

Death, Jun qtr 1936
Thomas Ashworth, age 73
Newton A., Vol 5b, page 175

But ......

I now have the marriage certificate for Thomas Ashworth and Florence Browett dated 10th Nov 1916 Thomas was 45

Therefore according to his marriage, Thomas claims to have been born in 1871 ??

I was so busy looking to see what Thomas's father was called, I didn't pay attention to his age. A couple of years we get used to, but seven/eight years surely isn't that usual once you reach the 1900's. Please tell me this isn't a typing mistake !

;D ;D

I'm now even more confused than I was before (not difficult for me)  :o

The initial request was for THOMAS HENRY Ashworth son of Dr T Ashworth.  However, now it appears that THOMAS HENRY married and died as THOMAS.  Initially his father is Dr T Ashworth, and yet on his marriage certificate he is HENRY.

Dr and Mrs T Ashworth of Harrogate

I thought it could be Dr and Mrs T Ashworth, meaning Thomas's mother was possibly Mrs T Ashworth ? So we could be looking for Dr Henry Ashworth with his wife's initial being 'T' ?

Not that I can find them, whatever they're called !  :D

Thanks Pels - neither can I, certainly not with a father who was a doctor.  I have to admit that I hadn't thought of only Mrs Ashworth being T.  I'm sure it's more usual that a couple takes the husband's initials.
