He appears a lot on Ancestry - marrying Eleanor Dodds in 1899. A birth of Charles Frederick Nutman, presumably a son, in 1901. In the 1911 census his wife entered him on line 1 but crossed it out - he was not in residence that night. He is a seagoing fireman. By then 2 daughters, 4 children born of the marriage, one has died presumably the son as another Charles Frederick is born in 1912 but dies immediately.

In 1929 he is seaman arriving from Bombay on the Macedonia age 51, residence Cardiff. So we might assume that he had a second marriage to Maud Hyett in 1917 in Cardiff. However I can't find a death of Eleanor Nutman before 1920. So lots of information around 0- there is more - but lots of research needed.

Thank you - I have most of the information you have except that they lost two children.  Sad but interesting to follow up.  He married my grandmother Maud Hyett in 1917 in Cardiff and interestingly had Bachelor as his marital status on that Marriage Certificate.  We believe, therefore, that he conveniently forgot about his first marriage in Newcastle.

I am fairly new to this so learning all the time.

I have looked up the Ancestry Charles Frederick Nutman record for 1901 - it is wrongly logged and misdirects you.  However, this relates to Christina Nutman born 1901 Q3 Vol 10a Page 1042, who I already have as one of the daughters.

I have found a Ruby Elizabeth Nutman, b 1902 died 1903 so subject to getting copies of the certificates this looks like one of the children.

Charles Frederick Nutman b/d 1912 would be after the 1911 census so shouldn't figure in the 4 children born 3 still alive.

Now this is here my inexperience shows through - there would appear to be a third child alive but not living with them.  How do I follow this up?  Help!

Sorry I forgot to say another daughter Lena born 1905.

The children with Eleanor in 1911 are indeed Christina, 10 and Lena, 4. Lena was bn. Newcastle, Mum and Christina in Gateshead. I don't find the son anywhere in 1911.
