Is he the same person as James Dabinette born Barrington, who in 1851 was aged 79 in Langport Union Workhouse? Occupation "formerly shoe maker".

1851: HO107/1926/301/12.

Possible death of James Dabinett, Dec qtr 1852 Langport 5c 301.

looks like we had the same lead, Anna.  I typed this up this morning but then had visitors -will put it up now as it corresponds to your info:

A few trees on Ancestry have him dying in 1852. There is a possible for him in Langport Union Workhouse in 1851 - HO107/1926/301/12 where he's down as 79 and  'Formerly a Shoe maker'. Indexed as Dabruth and Dabrinth  but I can't make it as anything like that on the 1841 (shoemaker, I mean)!

Also a Mary Dabinet, 75, at HO107/1936/13 described as 'Cordwainer's Wife'

Now all we need is a synonym for shoemaker/cordwainer which looks something like Nusiman  :)

Thanks everyone. This is James Dabinett, born in Barrington or close, married twice, Mary Walden and a year after her death to my 4th great grandmother, Mary (ready for this) Shoemake. Gadget, I would love to know where your Mary cordwainers wife entry is from.
Many thanks, chris

James's death cert should show his occupation. Although ,  if he died in Lanport workhouse, it would probably say the same as the 1851 census:

Death - James Dabinett, Dec q, 1852, Langport, v 5c p 301

Buried 30 October 1852, Barrington,  aged 80

Though it might be something to do with nubuck but there's no b in it  :-\

Gadget, thanks so much....you have answered a question that has clouded the family tree for several years. We were really never too sure about the name Shoemack. Many thanks for the info, Chris
