1841 Census Occupation

Morning all. Can anyone tell me what the occupation of James Dabinett is? I have marked it with a red cross. Its probably really obvious but I just cant work it out. Many thanks, Chris

I'd say Dabinett is a newsman - which, from a on-line search, means someone who gathers, edits and reports 'news' - news events/local stories, etc. In other words, a reporter.

cheers for that. he comes from an AgLab background. I would be surprised if he was a reporter...but you never know.

OK - as he's living near a stream, is it a mis-transcription for a 'sluiceman'?

Spelt 'sluiseman'

What about 'nurseman', really meaning 'nurseryman'? (meaning employed in cultivating plants - clutching at straws here  :))

I read this as Nusiman, and like gaffy was wondering if was actually Nu[rser]iman, i.e. nurseryman?

Looking at this site for occupations in 1841:

I see "nagsman" as the holder of horses outside a store or building, if the hitch post was already full.
