Haly Horton, Cornwood, 1600s
« on: Thursday 01 August 13 04:59 BST (UK) »
Hoping someone can help -

My (8x) ggrandfather, Haly Horton, married Mary Trobridge in Cornwood in 1685.  Does anyone know where & when he was born?

Mary I have as born in Thorverton, Devon, in 1664 - but only from 'most likely' FamilySearch result.  No idea if it's correct or not.  Anyone have a more positive result?

Incidentally, my grandfather was Richard Horton, born 1899 in St Neot, Cornwall, who emigrated to Australia after WWI.  His father's family (William Alexander Horton b.1870) was from Cornwood.

Thank you
Kim

Have you contacted the OPC for Cornwood who offers free look-ups? Go to http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/Cornwood/index.html and scroll down to Genealogy for the link.
A clue may be that a Strobridge HORTON was also in Plympton St Mary around that time and baptised a son called Haly - so likely to be a brother?

Thanks DOB7.  I have contacted him before, but not on this as I don't think the records are to be found in Cornwood (I could be wrong, but I've had a pretty good look there).

Was the Haly you mentioned baptised in 1715? If so, he's my Haly's grandson.  If not, I'd love further details if you have them.

I was actually hoping someone had already done the work of tracing Haly back further - I don't want to put anyone else to the trouble of trawling through records that I can probably plow through myself!

Thanks for the advice

Kim

Have a look on my web site at www.tcarrbrion.org.uk. I have an extensive tree of the Horton Family. I don't have a baptism for either Haly Horton or Mary Trobridge, but Mary's father was Arthur and he was a carpenter. I think I have details of his will but cannot find it right now. I don't think Thorverton is correct.

Hi Kim

I have lots of Hortons in my tree, but not yours lol. In fact I have 13 William's & 6 Haly's. I'm thinking we have a connection that I've not yet made. The earliest Haly married Mary Burridge in 1743 & had 9 children. Does this ring any bells? Regards Suzanne
