Catherine McIntyre GILMOUR
« on: Thursday 01 August 13 02:37 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Catherine McIntyre GILMOUR died on 6-7-2003, in Leeds, Yorkshire. I do not know the area, and wonder if someone would be kind enough to help me find an obituary for  her.  What paper would it be in please.  Also my Uncle John GILMOUR who died on 2-2-1987, also of Leeds, Yorkshire.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thank you Eddie in Australia

Hi Eddie,

The Yorkshire Post, or The Yorkshire Evening Post would be the two most likely paper's to have carried an announcement. They also produced the Leeds Weekly News, a free weekly publication which closed last year.

Kind regards,

Pels.

Hi Eddie,

Yes, Pels was right, any obituary would have been in the Yorkshire Evening Post or Yorkshire Post, but I think that these go too far back to be available on line now.  I think your best bet would be to contact Leeds Central Library, Calverley Street, Leeds, who will probably have old editions of the papers in their archives.  Sorry I don't know their phone number offhand, but if you google it you will find it.

Kanga: Are you def sure your relatives died in the relevant years?
Just done searches using both freebmd and yorkshire bmd, not a thing even for surrounding areas.
(Could your relatives be Methodist/Baptist by any chance?)

Brian:  FreeBMD isn't that up-to-date - yet (give me time - I'm working on it, but only doing 1969 marriages) :-*  Ancestry have Catherine McIntyre Gilmour death being registered July 2003 in Leeds, aged 81.  And John in February 1987 registered in Leeds, aged 71.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
