Census records for 1909, 1914 and 1919 St Arnaud Victoria
« on: Tuesday 30 July 13 02:09 BST (UK) »
I am seeking the census records for 1909,1914 and 1919 in St Arnaud, Victoria to start to retrieve further information on my GGG Grandparents and their families. Their name was Gunn and the descending families resided in St Arnaud area up until about 1949.
If I can locate these full records it will assist me in who lived in what household and how 3 of the names I have but can`t fit may be able to be linked in as well as following children.
It was the family of Robert Sinclair Gunn and Williamina Campbell (nee Cunningham).
Hope someone can help.
Debbie

I am certain that you will not have access for census of any kind in Australia, as we all rely on electoral rolls ( and Post Office Directories)....... the best way is to go to the State Archives of Victoria, or use ancestry website.   type in a name of someone in the house you know who was there and scroll the pages of that electoral district or division until you find any other souls at the addie. if they were under the age of 18 you will not see them anyway unless you have some supporting evidence such as school or other letters or materials.

You are referring to the online electoral rolls not census.  The records only give addresses and not the relationships at that address.   Quite often the address will simply be the town.

Would you please give the names you think are the descendants as Robert and Wilhelmina married in 1864.

Eldest son Wm Alexander settled at Nhill so this is possibly son Alexander

1903 Grampians/Gre Gre
GUNN Alexander  Darkbonee  Farmer
GUNN May Ethel  Darkbonee HD
GUNN Robert  Darkbonee Farmer
GUNN Wilhelmina Campbell  Darkbonee  HD

1909 Grampians/St Arnaud
GUNN Alexander  Dobnonee  Farmer
GUNN May Ethel  Darkbonee  HD
GUNN Robert  Darkbonee  Farmer
GUNN Wilhelmina Campebll  Darkbonee HD

Wouldn't it be better to try and track them through the bdm's, cemetery records etc.

Census records do not survive other than a few early ones.

Not much use if seeking info from rural areas where all the family may simply have the name of the town as an address.

Voting age was 21 years of age in 1949.

Robert  died in 1912 and only mentions his youngest son Alexander in his Will and leaves him some leasehold land consisting of 114 acres called Woodland Farm. Did Alexander marry?

Wilhelmina/Williamina's will has also been digitised.
Only mentions spinster dau Mary who I have probably listed as May Ethel on the electoral roll.  One listing has May and another Mary Ethel.

So there doesn't seem to be any GUNN descendants in St Arnaud in 1949 as Alexander died in 1939 at Fitzroy.

1919
GUNN Alexander  Woodland Farm  St Arnaud  Farmer
GUNN Mary Etheline  Woodland Farm  St Arnaud  HD

Alexander was also an agent for manures - a former name for fertilizers ie superphosphate etc.
