Boar War Uniform?
« on: Monday 29 July 13 11:31 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have just received this copy of my Grandfather Henry John Roberts born 1886 Middlesex.
It looks like he is wearing a uniform of the Boar War.
Also noticed he is wearing a wedding ring which would make this post 1907.
Perhaps a stripe on his left arm near his wrist.
He died 1910 in England of T.B.
Any further information would be wonderful.
Kind regards,
Vicki

Tunic was worn either side of the Boer War. But the helmet fits your dates. Chevron is good conduct badge. It shows he was a Regular soldier. Each badge gave him one penny a day extra pay. One stripe earned after two years. Second after seven years.

Can I just point out that it was the Boer War? ;D

The war against the Boers - which is Dutch/Afrikaans for Farmers!
