Yes, I noticed that, was just looking at my Cemetery inscriptions for the headstones.

:-\ I don't think it's too unusual to be buried with former husband ... at that time anyway. No divorce involved but my paternal gran is buried with her first husband, her second husband is buried with his first wife .... only several rows away from each other in same cemetery  :) mare

Only a guess, but it seems possible that these twins may have died shortly after birth ?
[A clue to that may be that each was given only one christian name ... in a family where there was a trend for siblings to have up to three names ?   I'm speculating, of course.   ;D]

But as we've often found with these early NZ records, babes who died in early infancy (mostly within days of birth), sometimes only had either their births / or their deaths registered (i.e. not always both events were registered.).

My searching (including cemeteries) hasn't so far turned up anything in NZ for Edward or Ernest PAXTON (or BURRELL - or a combination of those surnames.)

From 1905-06 to 1911, John and Diana PAXTON were residing in the Wellington area.

1905-06 - living at Hutt Road (Lower Hutt)

1911 - Diana Ellen PAXTON is on 2 rolls --  at Main Road, Johnsonville, Wellington
... and then also listed with John at - c/- Post Office, Taihape.

-------------

Their child reg. as Beatrice Christine BURRELL-PAXTON in 1906, died aged 18 months in 1907.

You may like to try an email to the Hutt City Council regarding a burial for this child.  (Many of the burials for Old Taita Cemetery are not available online.)

Possibly the twins Edward and Ernest were born in the Wellington area ?

Perhaps also ask Hutt City Council if they have other burial records for PAXTON / BURRELL.

School Records indicate that children moved from Johnsonville to Taihape.

Also looks like NZSG are holding certificates for this family. :)
