Shepton mallet churchyard
« on: Sunday 28 July 13 21:50 BST (UK) »
Hi does anyone know if there are many headstones left at SS Peter & Pauls? I have found some  info online that show my 'vertue' ancestors deaths in their register, not sure if this means tho that they were buried in the churchyard or elsewhere  :-\ ...does anyone know how i might go about finding this out? many many thanks. Genie

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

Somerset Heritage Centre has not only the parish registers of Shepton Mallet, including burials 1635-1952, but also Monumental Inscriptions (with index & plan) done in 1992.

The MI's are apparently also available at FindMyPast?

I transcribed the MIs the Shepton churchyard back in 1992. There were no Vertue stones recorded.

Sorry to disappoint, genie50. There were a couple dozens stones that were totally unreadable, and one to "Eliza daughter of Wm & Ann..." (surname and date illegible). What dates were your relatives buried. If late enough they could be in the cemetery? Do you have any other Shepton relatives?
