Is anyone researching this family?
William Carman arrived on the ship Rajasthan at Port Adelaide 6 Feb 1840. I am led to believe he was born Maidstone Kent.
On the same ship were other Carman's - John, Martha (nee Mainwairing), Martha Springate, Thomas, John, Samuel, Elizabeth Ann/Sarah
I'm trying to sort our the relationship of these people to William
The only baptism I could locate for a William in Maidstone Kent was in 1810 to parents Richard and Julia.
I found parents Thomas and Sarah Carman with two children baptised in the area - Elizabeth in 1827 and Thomas James in 1829.
William married Emma in 1844 in Adelaide, Australia, she having arrived on the ship Resource on 23 Jan 1839 at Port Adelaide.
Is this the same William who was a blacksmith who is said to have created the settlement of Kersbrook, near Adelaide and built the Wheatsheaf Inn in 1851.
The children born to William and Emma were:
William born 1845 in Adelaide;
John born 1849 Adelaide, died 1861 at Talunga;
Thomas born 1852 in Adelaide;
Martha Mary born 1855 in Adelaide;
Richard born 1856 at Talunga; Elizabeth born 1859 at Talunga, died before 1861;
Elizabeth Ann born 1861 at Tallunga;
David born 1863 at Talunga, died 1866 at Barossa;
David born 1867 at Barossa; Alfred born 1869 at Gilbert; and
Emily born 1872 at Gilbert, died 1873 at Gilbert.
William I believe died in 1877 at Kielli, near Mundoora, South Australia and Emma died 1917 at Prospect.
I would like to know more about William the blacksmith.
