Trying to find info on my ?great, great grandmother Martha Spick ?nee Shrewsbury. I think she was possibly born 1864. I've found her living with my great, great grandfather on the 1891 census, where her surname is given as Shrewsbury and is listed as a lodger? It does list her as married and then lists two children with the surname Shrewsbury.
Confused about what the situation was

Yes that is the info ive found. In the 1901 census she is listed as surname Spick so I'm assuming they got married. Just not sure if Shrewsbury is her maiden name or if she has been married before? And if they are even Robert Spicks children? Can't find much about her before 1891. My great grandfather is William and on the copy of his death certificate I have he is listed as William Shrewsbury Spick- was assuming it was his middle name but maybe it's a double barrel?

A copy of William's birth certificate might prove useful?
Father's name and mother's maiden name.

Can't see a marriage for Robert & Martha?

Yes going to order that then. Maybe they haven't married then, on the 1901 census they are listed both as married and she is now a spick.

Hi

This may be a total red herring but there is a John Shrewbury married to a Martha in the 1881 census. She is cotton weaver b 1860 Beeston. It looks like John Shrewsbury married Martha Lees in the first quarter of 1881. Martha is not with him in subsequent census and I cannot see a death for her but there is a death in 1930 for a Martha Shrewsbury. There is a public tree which suggests that your Martha is indeed Martha Lees. Might be worth searching these two names John Shrewsbury b 1854 Beeston and Martha Lees b 1860 Beeston.

Just not sure if Shrewsbury is her maiden name or if she has been married before?

Hi Amy:

Not sure if this helps but there is a possible marriage between:

John Shrewsbury
Martha Lees
1881, Basford, Nottinghamshire
Mar quarter, 7B, 220

...and on family search there is a John Shrewbury with wife Martha:

Hi

The only other record I can see is a First World War service record for Joseph Shrewsbury of about the correct age and which names a Martha Shrewsbury as his mother.

Good luck with your search
