Hi Xin  :)

If the info I've just  given about his parents is correct, I think you have to go back to before 1851 to maybe find a UK link.

Maybe it might be best if this was moved to Australia first.

Found a bit more that may or may not be of use:

An online tree has Denison William Downes b 1827 and dying 1886, Leichart, NSW, aged 59.*

* added - spouse - Elizabeth Hughes (1835-1921)

Parents - William Denis Downes, b. Cork or London! (1801- 1865) and Mary Ann Driscoll b. London (1804-1891)

If Elizabeth Hughes and Dennis/Denison Downes were his parents, the nearest that I can get to a birth for Henry is their first son -  listed as William Henry Downes, b. 1853, Melbourne.

The tree has him marrying an Elizabeth Dobbie 1 April 1879, Sydney.

* but another tree has the same fellow marrying a Marie Bressow in Brisbane (St John's) 27 Feb 1875; she dying in April of that year.

Think I'll leave it there for now!

mPlease type up all the info from his  QLD dc.   These are immediately available viaD BDM online ordering via Plastic card.

Should give when/where born, occupation, both parents full/former names,   Name of  spouse/s children of any marriage/s  his usual address cause of death, how long in colonies/state, funeral director

This will help to find / verify/confirm/eliminate other sightings for chaps named Henry Downes.
Cheers JM

Hi majm

Did you not see the entry that I put up , giving his parents names:

Hi

There's a death record for 19 April 1933, Queensland.
Father - Dennis (Downes)
Mother -  Elizabeth Hughes
Reg No. - B020396

Gadget

I assume that the reg no can be used to get the full cert.

Yes I saw that..

The info given on the online index is transcribed from the registrat....ion.  It is from that section of the dc that is NOT verified as it is from an informant and is not checked bt BDM staff.  There two further sections on QLD certs.  ...One for the medico and one for the funeral director who handles the equivalent of English burial order including how/where interred..  The FD can check some of the informant supplied info  as can a medico if the family doctor.

Otherwise like all dcs the info can be verified by family history buffs.......  eg When married/children of marriage ... vital fh info found on many Antipodean dcs.

Cheers JM on e reader so cant do cheerio smiley Gadget!

Following on from the possibility of father being Dennis William Downes who died in Liechardt in 1886,
here are some death and funeral notices for him

http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article107285261
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article71078939
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article13631722
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article13644520

Noting that his death notice says he is husband of Eliza and father of 6 sons.  The funeral notices suggest that his sons are William, George, Richard and Robert - perhaps these are the ones living in NSW.

  Ros
