I have a small mystery that I am hoping someone can help me with. I need to find the connection between Elizabeth BOLT and her "neice" Laura Evans as shown in the 1871 census below
Elizabeth Bolt 58
born Newton Poppleford, Devon, England
census Head Bicton Devon
Jane Bolt 20
born Colaton Raleigh, Devon, England
census Daughter Bicton Devon
Simon Bolt 22
born Colaton Raleigh, Devon, England
census Son Bicton Devon
Laura Evans 11
born East Budleigh, Devon, England
census Niece Bicton Devon
Laura Evans was born in 1858 in Budleigh Salterton, along with a twin sister Augusta. They were both the daughters of James Evans and Mary Stone. There was a 3rd daughter as well - Mary Evans born 1865. She was my gt grandmother.
In the 1861 census James & Mary Evans were recorded with the twins Laura and Augusta. Some time after 1865 (when Mary junior was born) the parents seem to have died because all 3 girls were living with relatives in the 1871 census.
The relatives that Augusta and Mary were living with, were directly related to the Stone family. But for the BOLT family with whom Laura was living, I cannot find the connection to either the Stones or the Evans.
Elizabeth BOLT was probably a widow, and was possibly married to a William BOLT. According to IGI, they had 8 children (there is a family group of 8 kids born between 1835 & 1849 on the IGI). Simon was born in 1849 which makes him 22 years old in the 1871 census. It is possble that one of the 8 children married an Evans or a Stone, but I cant find anything that proves this.
Does anyone have any Stone/Bolt or Evans/Bolt marriages in the area of Colaton Raleigh or East Budleigh anytime before 1865?
IF you have any other questions, please post and I'll be happy to answer.
Thank you
