Yes if you can take a photo to your pc, then clip it you can attach it to your reply.

His medal card says he joined up on 1 September 1915

(still looking for other details)
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Hi,

According to his Service records he joined in 30.8.1914 and was aged 41years 91 day, therefore born c. 1873. His birthplace was recorded as Berwick on Tweed, Northumberland.

JJ

I thin k that is a different James Dixon, and he says he is unmarried., Joined at Edinburgh and has a different number ie 7451

Okay Brilliant, i'll do that now.

Yes i've come across his medal card. However, I believe that his service record no longer exists.

His Medal Card states that he entered 1 (France) 1 Sept 1915  :)

However I do stand corrected that the James Dixon I found is incorrect, my apologies Robison1988.

So this may be the death registration.

James Dixon

Date of Registration: Mar 1953

Age at Death: 72

Registration District: Northumberland Central

Volume:  1b  Page: 285

So what I think is that James Dixon does marry Alice Storey. They are both living in Watergate (not #51 though) in 1911, indeed next door to Alice's parents William and Mary Ann Storey

Unfortunately he does not leave a will that I can see

Yes the Walkergate 51 address is from the 1937 marriage certificate between Mary A S Dixon and James Robison. So perhaps they moved from number 38. As for Mary A S Dixon, do you think she was just registered a week later than her actual birth date?

Thank you all for your help. I gave up over a year ago as I was not getting any where when searching for him, so your assistance today is much appreciated. I'm considering contacting the Northumberland Fusiliers Museum up in Alnwick to  see if I can uncover any more information on his First World War Service. From his first service number, I think he may have been in 1/7 btn Northumberland Fusiliers.

Yes I think it would be a good thing to contact the museum, especially as James Dixon is such a common name.

I am pretty sure that the James Dixon - Alice Storey marriage is correct and I would buy the certificate to see what it says about James' father as I cannot find James before 1911 although I can find Alice Storey all the way back to her birth.

I am stopping there for today. I may have a look tomorrow to see if I can find anything else and yes I do think what you say re Mary Ann Simpson Dixon is correct
