Burial sites
« on: Sunday 21 July 13 17:14 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Does anyone know how to find where an ancestor was buried?  I have the death certificate of my great grandmother, who died in 1983, my mother recalls her being buried in Perry Barr, Birmingham, but has no idea which cemetery.  How would I go about finding this out please?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

As you have her exact death date - you could contact the cemetaries round Perry Barr and ask if she was buried there.

Which was the nearest cemetary to where she was living at the time of her death?

that's one of the problems, there are many - she died at the Dudley Road hospital in Birmingham.

What was her actual home address prior to admission to hospital (just the district will do)

Are there any other family members still alive who can recall her funeral and can perhaps remember which cemetary?

Was she definitely buried and not cremated?

Yes she was buried, unfortunately the only other person to ask is my gran, and she's got dementia now  :(

She lived in Perry Barr, not far from crematorium on Walsall Rd

The crematorium should have the national burial index so it may worth checking with them. I don't know whether they charge but it does n't hurt to enquire. There is all saints west brom which is up from the crem. Also just less than 10 mins from the crem is heath lane cemetery west Bromwich. I don't really know the perry barr area but know a bit of west brom.

Another thing you can try is Sandwell bereavement services. If anyone can remember anything about the church at all, as particularly all saints is quite memorable. A big luminous cross on the top.

I have to say thanks to Weste for jogging my memory about the crem holding all the records, I had forgotten that and have been trying to find where my father was buried in Glasgow.
