Hi Bob,

My great grandfather was born at Braidhurst Rows in 1890.  If you put the postcode ML1 3XF into Google Maps (which is the location of Braidhurst High School), Braidhurst Rows were in that general area.  It's at the north end of Motherwell on the road to Bellshill.

If you go to the NLS website at http://maps.nls.uk/os/view/?sid=74488693 this shows an old map of most of North Lanarkshire.  Braidhurst is marked near the bottom edge, where North Motherwell is shown to the right of Bothwell.  You can zoom in to see it more clearly.
Best wishes

Rockford

I have just seen your message - it's always nice to meet a cousin  :)

I have sent you a private message with some more details of my Smith / Sweeney connection.

Thanks

Thank you everyone.... re. Braidhurst Rows.
With all your information I was able to almost pinpoint  Braidhurst Rows on the current map.
My dear old grandmothers shabby childhood tenement home has been replace by attractive housing.
My grandmothers name was Margaret Inglis..
Parents were Alexander and Agnes.
Alexander was a lampman in one of the colleries.
He was born about 1865.
Alexander and my gran came to Australia about 1910, Maggie was 14.
He worked coal mines in Cessnock NSW and they prepared housing for the rest of the family to arrive Oz 6 months later.
Thanks again for all your help...Best regards...Bob White

Hello Bob,
I believe we are related....I am granddaughter of Violet, Maggie's youngest sister. Maggie married Bill and Her daughter was Lillian who married Cecil White and they had daughter Julie. I have lots of family information & would love to find out more. Please make contact so we can fill in the gaps. Best regards Michele

Maggie Inglis did not come to Australia with her father Alexander. She came with her mother Agnes on the maiden voyage of the Orient Line ship Orvieto, arriving in Sydney on 9 January 1910. The only members of the family not with Agnes was her husband, eldest son Alexander and eldest daughter Janet. I so far have not found their shipping record.
My great grandmother was Marion Short (nee Archibald). Agnes Inglis's father was Andrew Archibald, Marion's brother.
I now have a very detailed Family Tree for my great grandmother.
regards.
Col Short
