Motherwell address

Hello to all. My grandmother lived in Braidhurst Rows, Motherwell around 1900.
Can anyone indicate this area in regards to current Motherwell map.

Hi Bob,

My great grandfather was born at Braidhurst Rows in 1890.  If you put the postcode ML1 3XF into Google Maps (which is the location of Braidhurst High School), Braidhurst Rows were in that general area.  It's at the north end of Motherwell on the road to Bellshill.

If you go to the NLS website at http://maps.nls.uk/os/view/?sid=74488693 this shows an old map of most of North Lanarkshire.  Braidhurst is marked near the bottom edge, where North Motherwell is shown to the right of Bothwell.  You can zoom in to see it more clearly.

There were old rows approx. where B&Q car park is today.

That's a very good map Sancti and Braidhurst Rows are marked on it. Just where I thought they would have been, at the bottom of what is now the Daisy Park area, just to the left of Motherwell Mill (we always called it McGreegor's Mill) and exactly where Braidhurst Street is today. Nowhere near the high school or B&Q.
Interesting to see the Globe cemetery marked with it's original name, Dalziel cemetery.

I'm afraid that's my mistake - I checked my great grandfather's birth certificate and it says he was born at Braidhurst No1 Pit - this is where I located on the map.  Clearly Braidhurst Rows are in an entirely different place as inidcated by Sancti's map and as described in your post.  Apologies to Bob for any confusion I created

With all your information I was able to almost pinpoint  Braidhurst Rows on the current map.
My dear old grandmothers shabby childhood tenement home has been replace by attractive housing.
My grandmothers name was Margaret Inglis..
Parents were Alexander and Agnes.
Alexander was a lampman in one of the colleries.
He was born about 1865.
Alexander and my gran came to Australia about 1910, Maggie was 14.
He worked coal mines in Cessnock NSW and they prepared housing for the rest of the family to arrive Oz 6 months later.

The 1910 map shows the rows to be still there but they were gone by 1939

Could anyone help me I have a family living in the Old school house in (new stevenson/ holytown/motherwell on different census and death certificates, could anyone advise where i could find this address on an old map. also anyone out there with mcgregors from mothewell area would love to make contact, thanks julie :
Census/ births etc  were between 1880-1905.
