The marriage also confirms his father's name as John Hale Shoemaker.  The marriage was 6 years after the 1851 census.  I wonder if this was the Susannah in the census?

Does her death cert give her age?

it gives her age as 44 which means she would have been born around 1820-21 rather than 1817. So I think that maybe this is a different Susannah? or she lied about her age :)
