Hi there,
If someone was born in Athlacca, Limerick in the late 1830's what Roman Catholic church should I be looking to for records ?
Thanks
Tara

In the 1830s I would say RC parish was Atlhacca/Dromin - NLI film Pos. 2426. Extract from Lewis for Athlacca civil parish "...
In the R. C. divisions the parish also forms part of the union or district of Dromin, and has a chapel. A school of about 60 boys and 20 girls is aided by the Rev. J. O'Regan, P.P
...."

an RC chapel is shown in the village of Athlacca on the 1st Ed. OSI maps, so probably the parish church at the time - see :
RC Church, Athlacca

Bruff is very close and the RC parish covered parts of Dromin civil parish, which was part of Athlacca RC parish, and next to the civil parish ... so you might get a few strays...
Lewis '37, Bruff : '..
In the R. C. divisions this parish is the head of a union or district, comprising also the parishes of Tullybracky, Grange, Meanas, Manister, and part of the parishes of Uregare, Glenogra, and
Dromin
; and containing three chapels, situated respectively at Bruff, Grange, and Meanas

Hiya Shane,
I'm hopping between the 2 churches, which is probably wishful thinking, but you never know I could be lucky.
Thanks a mill for your help,
Tara

Shane,
I am just cross referencing with the Irish Times .....
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&parish=Dromin&churchid=862
For the NLI it is showing as 10 years missing !
IFHF is showing that it has records for Athlacca - don't suppose you know would the same 10 years be missing there because as Murphy's Luck would have it, that's approx the years I am looking for - grrr

Hi There Maggsie
It's my friends tree that I was helping with.
Her Great Great Grandfather was James (O)Connor and was born 1838 in Athlacca.
He joined the policeforce and moved around Ireland before marrying and moving to San Francisco, USA.
Since last posting here we have found some siblings of his whom also went to San Fran.
James' parents were James (O)Connor and Helen (O) Connor (maiden name).
If you think there is a connection then I would love to know.
Thanks A Mill
Tara
