Anyone help with finding ships records?
« on: Monday 08 July 13 12:59 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out more details about a journey undertaken by my Great Grandmother in 1913 aboard the SS Royal Edward, Bristol to Canada in January 1913. On the passenger list she was listed as deported (I think on arrival in Canada) and was subsequently detained at Avonmouth docks, taken to the workhouse where she died a couple of weeks later of a brain hemorrhage. Does anyone know anything about individual ships records? Particuarly anything relating to medical records or anything to do with deportation. Did each ship keep a seperate record of each journey and if so where would they be located?

I hate to say this, but this post seems to contradict your other thread,
(Other "I think I have found her on a passenger list (as a deported passenger) from Canada (Halifax) to Bristol on 29th January 1913" )
(This,  "a journey undertaken by my Great Grandmother in 1913 aboard the SS Royal Edward, Bristol to Canada in January 1913")
You "completed" the other post, so by posting here, what other information do you wish to know if it is available?

Regards

Malky

Hi Malky. I would like to find out if it is possible to find out anything else about her journey ie why she was deported, if she was actually allowed to disembark in Canada etc. Anything relevant really - but Im not sure if those kind of records exist or where they would be held.

Thank Malky, much appreciated - will have a read properly later, but just glanced through and its interesting that 1913 appears to be the year that the Canadians deported more English passengers and on quite an ad-hoc basis!
