Would anyone care to guess the ages?
« on: Monday 08 July 13 05:50 BST (UK) »
Hi again folks.  Some of you very good people restored the following 2 photos for me yesterday, for which I am very grateful.  Now I'm trying to figure out the approx. ages of the 2 people, or a rough idea of when the photos were taken?

I'm hoping there's a chance they were taken on their wedding day which was in 1831.  His age was 23 & she was 14 when they married.  What do others think?

All suggestions will be most welcome.

Thank you,
Michelle

The photographs are indicative of being taken much later than 1831. The 1830's were the infancy of photography and the photographs you have are more mature than the very beginnings.

Here is the link to the topic for the original images posted:

(and stating that he died 1860 and she died 1870).

Hi Michelle,

The original images posted on that restoration topic - are they scans of the originals or photo(copies) of the original?  Was wondering if you have access to the uncropped originals and the mounts (if there were any) as this can all have clues - and also assuming the originals are such that it is clear they were probably taken on the same day (year)?

Cheers

1870's.To give a more accurate date we would need to see the originals. There's a outside chance at late 1860's.
Photography wasn't invented until the 1839 so not an 1831 wedding.
They look quite young,25-30.
You need to come forward a generation.

Hi to everyone who has replied.  To Ambly: The link you referred to is where I asked for restorations of these 2 photos.  No, the photos are copies of copies of copies, therefore I do not have the originals.

To Jim1:  Thanks for the 'heads up' about coming forward a generation - I'll keep that in mind.

I was hoping the photos may have been taken on their wedding day but I guess I'm lucky to have them at all, no matter when they were taken.

It's handy to know that photography wasn't invented until 1839, so thanks for that bit of info.

Cheers to all,
Michelle
