KEN W. THOMAS c 1922
« on: Friday 05 July 13 08:05 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out what happened to my Uncle, Ken W. Thomas c 1922. He was the second eldest son born to Edwin John Archibald (‘Archie’) Thomas c 1895 and Caroline Louisa Thomas (nee Goulding) c 1895 who lived in the village of Newton, Swansea Wales.

Ken left Newton in the mid-1950’s for work reasons, and possibly went to London, England.
Other siblings in this family were my father Francis John (‘Jack’) Thomas c 1921, Mollie Stephanie Thomas c 1924, Graham Thomas c 1926 and Maureen Thomas c 1930.

I would be grateful if anyone could assist.

Jacqueline Sutherland (nee Thomas)

Hi

People born in the 1920's and 30's are possibly still alive in which case their details cannot be published here nor can information be given about them

Ken W.

Do you mean Kenneth as there are no births under Ken

If he left in the mid-1950's was he married as he would be in his 30's by then

You can use freebmd to check for a marriage and having determined his wife's surname - you can possibly still use freebmd to search for births of children

This is the link to freebmd

His birth was registered in the December qtr 1922 - possible death September 1985 in Swansea - birthdate 8.10.1922

There is another in 2006 in Somerset birthdate 13.10.1922

If neither of these birthdates match - then he is possibly still alive or perhaps died after 2007

Hello ‘CaroleW”
Thanks for your response and information.
I omitted to mention in my earlier post that I believe that my Uncle was married circa mid 1960’s (wife unknown), and had a child called Eliza circa late 1960’s. I think that he passed away sometime after 1974, and died relatively young. The death record that you identified in the September QTR 1985 at Swansea may well be him.  I have ordered a copy of this from the GRO.
Do you know whether it is possible to access death notices in Swansea around 1985? If I could, then this would be additional confirmation of his date of death
Thanks again.

Hi

I don't know for certain re: death notices but perhaps somebody with more knowledge of the Swansea area can help with that one.  My gut instinct is "not on line"

Hello ‘CaroleW'

Thanks again - I think that I will wait to see if the Death Certificate is the right one first.  If it is, then I will pursue the local death notice availability in Swansea.

Regards

Hi cousin. I'm Maureen's son Paul. Moms memory isn't what it was but she told me as part of my research that ken married ruby before her and my dad which would be in the early 50s. Are you still down under?
Keep in touch :)
Paul.

Update - Uncle Ken suffered from whooping cough as a child and was not a well man for most of his life which was spent in and around Swansea.Eliza may have been from a previous marriage of Ruby's as Mom has no recollection of them having a child themselves. I have some more of the tree :-)
