Weir and Wilkinson
« on: Thursday 04 July 13 10:05 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have a Will John Weir born 14th May 1884 ( around Craig's Church area, Co Antrim), son of William John Weir and Jane Wilkinson. I can't find any more info on this Will John jr - no marriage, death or emigration records. He just appears to have vanished !

his mother Jane Wilkinson had a father George, but again, this is all I Know.

I would also be interested in his father William john's father David who may have been married to Martha. William John was born 10th Sept 1833, I think it was Ahoghill

  Thanks for your help,Angela

You've posted on the board for Resources & Offer not queries but hopefully a moderator will move it to the main Antrim board soon.

Have you found the family in 1901 and 1911 census? (if so, please post the links to save us from more searching for them) the 1911 census asked married woman how many years marriaed, how many children born and how many children living which might indicate if William John died young.

Have you looked at the online civil registration index to see if there's a death registration? (remember he might be listed just as William rather than William John) - see www.familysearch.org

Could this be the father William John living in Belfast? "Weir William John of 31 Cherryville Street Belfast grocer died 6 September 1936 Administration Belfast 16 December to Jane Weir the widow. Effects £694 10s. 9d." No, aged 35 when he died according to Belfast burial index

hi,

Will John's parents -William John Weir and Jane Wilkinson-are both dead before 1901 and his siblings are married or deceased so the census is not really useful in this case.  I imagine that Will John, if he lived, either remained around Ballymena/Ahoghill or he emigrated. The family tended to either work in the weaving industry or were farm labourers. ngela

Hi,
Taken your advice and looked up the death records. a William John Weir, Ballymena, comes up 1865, age 0, which could be him if he died early before he was a year old. Is there any way I could see the details of this death record ? Thansk

Age '0' in index means under 1 year but the only way to view the details will be to purchase the certificate. The certificate will not list the parents as such but may give one of them as the informant.
