I'm looking for one of my ancestors who was born in Bedfordshire, England but emigrated to Australia when he was 30 and lived there until he died in Katanning on the 4th May 1967.

Here's the information I've collected so far:

Father: William Swannell b 29 May 1866 m 1 May 1888 d 24 April 1935
Mother: Sarah Ann Manton b 27 Jan 1870 m 1 May 1888 d 3 Dec 1942
6 siblings

Military: 1914-1920
Arrival: Apr 1924, Albany, Western Australia, Australia
Residence: 1931, Nelson, Forrest, Western Australia, Australia
Residence: 1936, Katanning, Forrest, Western Australia, Australia
Residence: 1937, Katanning, Forrest, Western Australia, Australia

Residence: 1949, Katanning, Forrest, Western Australia, Australia

Departure: London
Origin: British
Religion: Roman Catholic
Death: 4 May 1967, Katanning, Forrest, Western Australia, Australia
Burial: 1967, Kojonup, Western Australia, Australia

I have also found on some of the electoral rolls another member of the household in Australia called Thelma Philomena Swannell. I can't find a marriage in the UK or Australia and Sidney came over to Australia alone.

I would be grateful for any more information you could give me

A possibility for her burial at KARRAKATTA

Aged 85 in 1994.

ADDING-
If the above burial is your woman, then perhaps this death may be of interest as it is in name of the Grantee, Peter SWANNELL who is buried with THELMA at the same location.

Thanks sparrett for the links. I've had a look and I'm not sure yet so I will look deeper into them! I will keep this thread updated with anything else I find.

Also, I forgot to put about his name, yes from what I've found he was referred to as David.
Thanks

Ps. Sorry for the late reply as I've been out of the country :)

SWANNELL Sydney Archibald David 4 May 1967 74 years

This is possibly the Peter SWANNELL mentioned as grantee on Thelma's burial record. Her ws born c1950 however I am unable to locate an electoral roll listing in the rolls available to 1980.

Their dates of their deaths are detailed on the burial records so I suggest if you want further info their death and funeral notices may be useful.  I suggest you use YES [Your Enquiry Service] at the State Library of Western Australia for copies of any notices. Scroll down the page.

Thanks cando!

As I do not live in Australia, I do not check my RootsChat at half past one in the morning! But more importantly I do not have a clue where to go with Australian records after I've tried the Australian sections of the English family history sites!

Thanks for the information, hopefully I can contact some of these websites and try to find this child, however I strongly believe Peter is our guy!

Thanks

UPDATE: Sidney Archibald David Swannell (1893-1967)
« Reply #8 on: Thursday 12 December 13 18:57 GMT (UK) »
I have confirmed that Peter Swannell is the son of Sidney Archibald David Swannell and Thelma Philomena Martin.  This is because I have found Thelma's grave in 'The Billion Graves' website where Peter is also buried alongside his mum.

Here is the link: http://billiongraves.com/pages/record/ThelmaSWANNELL/5538301

The website also shows a great picture of the Thelma's headstone with Peter's attached onto the side.  There is a blurry image, on Peter's headstone, of Peter, which can just be made out.

New/revised information:
Peter Swannell:
born: 13 Mar 1950
died: 5 Oct 2010
buried: 15 Oct 2010
religion: Roman Catholic
spouse: Gaye <UNKNOWN MAIDEN NAME>
no. of grand-children as of 2010: 25

Thelma Philomena Martin
born: 5 Oct 1908
died: 8 Jun 1994
no. of great-grandchildren as of 1994: 15

I have also found a recent school newsletter for Hillcroft Primary School in Western Australia where the name "Gaye Swannell" is mentioned as a VIP guest to one of their events.  It would be interesting to see whether this is Peter's widow.

Here is the link for the newsletter: http://www.hillcrestps.wa.edu.au/app/webroot/uploaded_files/media/no_15__25_octobe_rweb_v1colour.pdf

Any further information or possible relations/contacts will be gratefully received! :)

Merry Christmas
