1861 Census - help reading place of birth
« on: Tuesday 25 June 13 19:23 BST (UK) »
Hi, is anyone able to identify the place of birth for the following individual?

Ann England, age 79 years, address, Ratley, Warwickshire, Piece 916, Folio 11, Page 16.

Looks like it might be Wooton by Euly, but I can't find any place by that name, so must be something else.

Thanks,

Jack

it does look like that but as you say cant imagine where it could be. in 1851 she simply says ratley . her marriage banns in ratley say of the parish and her burial is ratley so there is no help anywhere else.

Hi vronlady,

Thank you for looking at this. There is a Sarah Green baptized at Wootton Wawen in 1782. That is about 25 miles on today's roads. Not an impossible distance, but would Ann really be an alternative for Sarah?

Thanks,

Jack

Hope this doesn't sound daft - but could it (mistakenly) be meant to say - Woot(t)on by (H)enl(e)y ??

Kind regards,

Pels.

Not so daft at all. It could very easily be Enly . Would that then be Henley in Arden which is right by Wootton Wawen?

I read the last word as 'Enly' not 'Euly' - hoping the image works ?
