Lookup for baptism entry: St Saviours, Southwark
« on: Monday 24 June 13 14:00 BST (UK) »
Whilst researching Waterman's binding affidavits in May 1771 I came across an entry for my
Ancestor Thomas Jackson, whom gave his baptisms date as 17 May 1757, in accordance with his certificate, he was
Baptised at St Saviours. I wonder if someone could look this entry up and confirm his parents or other siblings.
Many thanks
Murray

Hi, and welcome!  :)

The baptism isn't coming up in Ancestry's online index. That isn't surprising because the images for St Saviour at this period are taken from a very poor-quality film at LMA. Some entries are too faded to read on the film, and as a result the register has only been partially indexed/transcribed online.

Looking at the relevant image, there don't appear to have been any baptisms at that church on 17 May 1757, but it is hard to be certain because some entries are out of order (Southwark, St Saviour, 1720-1757, image 94, right-hand column).

You may need to have someone visit LMA and look at the original register (P92/SAV/3007), which is reasonably legible.

Abraham Hollingswood
England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
christening:   14 October 1781   SAINT SAVIOUR,SOUTHWARK,SURREY,ENGLAND
Eleanor Hollingsworth
christening:   27 December 1779
Ann Fountain Hollingsworth
christening:   27 September 1767
Sarah Hollingsworth
christening:   27 April 1777
Martha Hollingworth
christening:   7 May 1780

I am wondering if anyone can share any information on the above people, particularly Abraham as he is my GGG grandfather, if I am correct and this IS actually his Baptism.  In his wedding it records his father as Thomas, but I need clarification on this.  Can anyone help me?  I believe they ended up part of St Botolphs (Algate?) and lived in Gravel Lane.  Thomas is called a 'Gentleman' or 'officer of the Customs'.
