I am searching for my Great Aunt Elizabeth Matthews whom I have been told may have married a SINCLAIR in Scotland from about 1867, she was born in Australia about 1846, and lived and died in Scotland somewhere in the lower region Of Scotland near the border. Any info would be great. Lynne

Do you have any details of children born to them?  How reliable is the info that she married a Sinclair as there is no marriage shown on Scotlands People

Hi

I think that there are at least 2 previous  threads that discuss Elizabeth.

I'm reading through them to see if there are any clues.

From one of those posts

Quote
and their daughter Mary Elizabeth sailed to Australia on in 1854

Is this the daughter of the same family?

If so - she is referred to as Mary Elizabeth Matthews and as she is on the passenger manifest in 1854- she was born in England not Australia

Can you clarify the info you have given?

It would be better if this post was merged with your other for continuity.  There is a risk of the same info being posted again

It seems that Lynne is following a variety of trails, Carole. One led her to France:

Birth seems a bit out - I read it as circa 1851  :-\

Haven't found any deaths in Scotland so far. I've been using maiden name as SP index both.

Added - and another in Cornwall  :-\

Have read your replys and I will give you Elizabeths history. Born in Portland Victoria Australia about 1846 to John and Mary Matthews. put into Ballarat benevolment Assylum 1860 when father died, then taken from there by a Mrs Reid, Then in 1867 Mr amd Mrs Reid and Miss Elizabeth Matthews sailed on ship "Holmesdale" to London. As Reid is Scottish I was told a couple of theories the latest being she was a Sinclair and lived and died in Scotland. lower region near the border. Possibly not right but as I have been searching for her for 10 years I am trying all leads. Thank You Lynne

Hi Lynne

I think your other threads have included most of this information and no one has found anything of her in Scotland, Cornwall or France. I see that in some threads you say that she was a Mary Elizabeth, b.c. 1851 in England. I'm not sure where this particular  info about marrying a Sinclair and dying in Scotland came from (we do need sources) but there doesn't seem to be any evidence of her in Scotland. Do you know when she died?

Also, Reid is not necessarily a Scottish name. Have you investigated them and  traced them after their arrival in the UK?  There maybe some clues about your great aunt in their whereabouts.

Thank you for your reply, this is the only site that I have tried to find her in UK, I do not know any relevant sites on which to trace them from their landing in London about May or June 1867. Any info on sites would be appreciated. Lynne
