Wow! Quite a few then! Only Maria and Elizabeth are on the headstone. Thanks for the info, clears up a couple of queries for me.

Thanks again.

Jo

HI Marianne,

I wonder if you would be able to please check Ford E-117 for me? Think I know of two people buried in that plot but just wondering if there's anyone else.

Thanks so much and warm wishes,

S

Hi i am new to all the ancestry stuff etc and have started my family tree, i am signed up to ancestry and whilst this has been helpful i have become stuck. it has given me various grave numbers etc for ford however when looking i have had a lot of trouble such as graves being labeled 200 then the next for example 2064 etc in various areas. i have seen the map of ford and used it however i have been unable to locate plots etc or any stones even when searching for various relatives.

Just out of interest could you please see if there is any information regarding

William James McGlennon birth abt 1872 death age 69 abt 1941 buried 15 May 1941 from what i can understand of the index it reads AB563

OR

Philip McMonagle Birth Year   abt 1826 Age 77 Death Year abt 1903 Burial Date 16 Apr 1903 grave M212

Hi

Welcome to RootsChat.

Do you know about public and private graves? Public graves are where the family just pay for a single burial. Private graves are where the family purchase the whole plot. There are no gravestones on public graves.

Gravestones are not always on private graves in many cases people did not bother with them as it would involve a financial commitment over a period of time to ensure that all those buried in the grave were on the gravestone.

It can be difficult locating private graves because not every private grave has a gravestone. The usual way of locating a grave is to use a map to find the general area of the section. Next look at the backs of the gravestones for a section letter or letters and a number. Try to see how the rows are set out and count along including spaces where gravestones are not located.
